Frederick X and Mary of Denmark are still getting used to their new role as kings of the Nordic country. It has only been four months since Queen Margaret II abandoned the throne to make way for her son and welcome a new stage that has begun marked by controversies.
When it seems that citizens are beginning to forget the scandal of the photographs of the monarch walking with Genoveva Casanova in Madrid, rumors of a crisis in the royal marriage are growing. Added to this is the criticism they are receiving for the international trip they are currently embarking on, which coincides precisely with their 20th wedding anniversary.
On May 2, the kings of Denmark boarded the yacht Dannebrog, one of the official residences of the royal family. A trip in which they made several stops and which had Sweden and Norway as destinations to make official visits. And although from the beginning it was publicly said that they would be traveling on this ship until May 16, it seems that this has not been entirely the case.
Although it was thought that they would cross the Baltic Sea in that boat to Stockholm, it has now been learned that this was not the case. Federico and Mary disembarked in Fredensborg (Denmark) to board a direct plane to the Swedish city, as reported by the newspaper BT. And if there is something that has not sat well in Danish society, it is that they were not clear about the route they were going to follow.
But the criticism has not arisen just because of this gesture, but because they tried to hide it by making a great staging. As soon as the monarchs got off the plane on May 5 in Sweden, they got back on the royal yacht and were picked up by a ship of the Swedish royal family, the Vasaordenel, according to the country’s press.
After this, they arrived at the port of the city where they were going to get off the boat. Carlos Gustavo and Silvia of Sweden, kings of the Nordic country, were waiting for them there, along with their daughter Victoria.
The Danish population has put on the table that their kings have made the royal yacht travel to Stockholm, with the expense that this entails, if they have used another means of transport. And during their stay in Sweden they have used the boat as a residence, even holding a royal reception.
Unaware of the controversy, Federico and Mary from Denmark are currently in Norway where their state trip to this country begins this Tuesday. A day marked, also, for being their wedding anniversary. And it has been 20 years since they passed through the altar in a great ceremony held in Copenhagen Cathedral. Two decades in which they have had to fight against crisis speculation and controversies on countless occasions.
