The Summer Grand Prix faces its decisive stage on La 1 de Televisión Española. Of the eight towns selected to participate this year, only two remain to make it onto the set, and the other six have competed fiercely and fun to stay alive in the competition. At the moment, Alfacar (Granada), Yepes (Toledo) and Aguilar de Campoo (Palencia) already have their place secured in the semifinals, waiting to confirm fourth place.

That will happen this coming Monday at 10:35 p.m., when the last program of the first phase puts Los Montesinos, from the province of Alicante, face to face; and Tineo, the representative population of Asturias. Once again, Ramón García will supervise the hostilities together with Cristinini, Michelle Calvó and Wilbur, with the collaboration of two new hosts for the occasion: the actress Belinda Washington and the rapper Arkano, respectively.

Several of the season’s standout games and costumes will return to this show-stopping show, including the Giant Babies and Math Penguins. A new heifer will also take center stage in the contest, giving participating towns the chance to counter their rival with certain tricks. Another curious detail to see will be played by Wilbur, challenging Michelle to participate in a test.

Once again, the program presented by Ramón García will try to maintain the positive dynamics of the previous three. Both the premiere and the upcoming programs managed to amass excellent audience data, exceeding a 20% share of the screen and around two million viewers at all times. A success that also spread to social networks, with the contest’s official labels and videos gaining notoriety with each broadcast.

This new Grand Prix has been very successful, but has run into some bumps along the way. And it is that the list of localities that were willing to participate was altered on several occasions, for a striking reason: the municipal elections on May 28. The elections changed the composition of some town councils, which had shown their interest in participating before the electoral campaign began.

Once the administrations were reviewed, the RTVE team found some rejections at the table, from the new mayors. The initiative to compete did not continue in some of the preselected municipalities, something that forced Televisión Española to revise the list of towns and cities and choose again. An election that ended without major inconveniences and with the eight locations chosen, of which only two remain to participate.
