The Fura dels Baus at the Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week

Yesterday, Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week (BBFW) presented the news for the 2024 edition, which will be held from April 17 to 21 at the Fira de Barcelona. Albasari Caro, the director of the show, highlighted “the progressive increase in brands and visitors” and the interest it arouses among haute couture designers. “Firms of this caliber are usually reluctant to present their collections outside of Paris, but last year we had Elie Saab, and this time the guest at Bridal Night will be GiambattistaValli.”

Precisely, the Italian designer participated in the press conference, via Skype, from Paris to affirm that he was excited to be able to present his bridal collection for 2025 in Barcelona and specifically in the Llotja de Mar, “a space that allows me to create the special atmosphere that I need to parade with my collection, but also to show what is most representative of my brand and what inspires me,” he explained during the conversation he had with the director.

This year, Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week will also feature an artistic installation created by La Fura dels Baus on Avenida María Cristina, with the aim of opening the fair, which only professionals can enter, to Barcelona residents. The installation is a type of industrial hanger 100 meters long that will operate every day of the Bridal and on which mannequins with bridal dresses from 40 of the 60 bridal workshops that exist in Catalonia will be hung every day. “It is an installation which Instagrammers will really like.”

This year’s edition of Barcelona Bridal Fashion will have 400 brands in the show, of which 80% are international, dedicated not only to bridal fashion, but also to parties, red carpets and accessories. “We expect a total of 21,000 visitors (we already have 10% more accredited than last year) who will come from the five continents, because this year, for the first time, seven buyers will come from the most relevant stores in Australia,” Albasari announced. Expensive. And he added that the economic impact of the show on the city is 61.5 million euros.

On the catwalk, the glamorous part of fashion, 37 brands will parade that will lay the foundations for the bridal trends of 2025. Highlights include: Jesus Peiro, Atelier Pronovias, Isabel Sanchis, Sophie et Voilà, Yolancris, Marco

Of the casting of models, 45% respond to the diversity of races, sizes and age, although Albasarí Caro warns that “we present diversity, but the brands then choose the models they want.” Curiously, no model from the casting nor any other real person appears on the advertising poster for this year’s edition. The woman of color who appears surrounded by bags has been created by Artificial Intelligence: “We cannot turn our backs on this technological evolution, but surely next year we will choose a person, because although this year’s result is magnificent, we believe that “A human being like the bride can only be dressed by another human being.”
