Dua Lipa has released the video for Illusion, filmed in Montjuïc with panoramic views of Barcelona. You can see the singer, the dancers and swimmers with the most iconic monuments in the background, giving prominence to the city and offering it as a tourist attraction.

In the images, the singer and the dancers wink at Catalan culture and recreate a ‘castell’ that is crowned by the artist, as if it were an ‘enxaneta’. The video also has spectacular choreography with 15 Catalan synchronized swimmers.

One of them is the captain of the Spanish synchronized swimming team, Txell Mas, who explained in RAC1 what the experience was like, which was surrounded by secrecy: “We didn’t know until the day of the recording who the artist was and they told us in the last moment where it would be recorded”.

Everything was surrounded by a lot of secrecy. They even trained without the song. “We did it with a musical base with the same rhythm, without having the song,” Mas explained.

One of the rules that the swimmers had was that they could not bother the singer or address her during the recording. “We couldn’t interact too much, we were forbidden to touch her.” But it was she who broke the ice: “she approached us and we were talking,” she recalled. “She is super friendly, she knew that some of us were on the Olympic team and she asked us a lot of things,” she added.

In addition to the experience, all participants were paid. But for Txell there is one more victory: “It’s very cool to be able to be in a video clip like this and for it to give us visibility,” she said.

On Dua Lipa’s YouTube channel, more than 1.7 million people have already seen the video in just 15 hours.
