Daniel Sancho has been attending the Koh Samui Court for three days, where the first days of the trial for which he is accused are taking place. Rodolfo Sancho’s son could face life imprisonment or capital punishment if the Prosecutor’s version is accepted, which claims that the detainee premeditatedly murdered Edwin Arrieta and then dismembered him.
Some sessions have been paralyzed until next Wednesday due to the Songkran holiday. The Asian country, which follows the Siamese tradition, will celebrate the Buddhist New Year these days. Therefore, we will have to wait until next week to continue this case. Even so, it was now that Juan Gonzalo Ospina, lawyer for the Arrieta family, spoke out.
Juan Ospina has tried to be very cautious when speaking, taking into account the judge’s warnings. And the magistrate has made it very clear that he will take measures against anyone who leaks information from inside the courtroom. “We have a positive balance, they have developed without any surprises and without any irregularity. It has been an experience that will not be forgotten in life,” the lawyer began to relate.
The lawyer for the Arrieta family has shown a positive attitude towards the start of the trial, since it is taking place “without any surprises or irregularities.” So much so, that all the witnesses are “ratifying his previous statements.”
But he has not been shy when it comes to talking about how he has seen Daniel Sancho during these sessions. “As has been commented on some other occasion, we understand that it is an attitude in which he does not show any type of regret, he has defiant looks… When he asks his own questions he always adds some value judgment,” he stated.
Likewise, he has stated that the judge is being “very guaranteeing when it comes to allowing” the accused to participate in the trial. And he is accepting that “he himself asks questions to the witnesses. Something totally unprecedented in our system.”
And it is because of some “inappropriate questions” that the magistrate has called Daniel Sancho’s attention on some occasions, as was revealed on the first day. “It is a country in which royal law prevails and not Roman law. Here there are only fair jokes, lack of respect and lack of consideration for the parties, none. And when your honor says something, that something is like that,” he added. Juan Gonzalo Ospina.
Finally, he wanted to make it clear that the Arrieta family did not like Rodolfo Sancho’s words in the docuseries The Sancho Case. “They still have a very large open wound and until the trial is over I am convinced that they will not be able to rest in peace. Any expression that increases the pain of the Arrieta family is always unfortunate,” he concluded.
