Ocean of Storms is the new surprise from Swatch. The eternally young brand has presented in a completely unexpected way this new delivery that joins the collection of the five watches of the Blancpain X Swatch collaboration. This new watch, which will surely become the new object of desire for collectors with a non-limited black dial (thus the New Moon also known as the Black Moon) is available worldwide from January 11, 2024. , New Moon day, in selected Swatch stores (also in Serrano and Passeig de Gràcia) with a recommended price of 400 euros.
Although planet Earth only has five oceans, Swatch has added one with which it pays its own tribute to Blancpain’s iconic Fifty Fathoms with which the Swiss manufacture revolutionized the watch industry 70 years ago by offering the first modern diving watch.
Known by its Latin name, Oceanus Procellarum is like a lunar sea, a basin located on the western edge of the visible side of the Moon and whose name means Ocean of Storms. It is the largest mare or “sea” on the Moon, with an extension of more than 2,500 kilometers from north to south and about 2 million square kilometers.
However, the new Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Ocean of Storms is not nearly as big. In fact, it has exactly the same dimensions and characteristics as the models in the collection with which Swatch in collaboration with Blancpain surprised the world (for the umpteenth time) after its successful previous series with Omega.
The Ocean of Storms joins the Arctic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean and Antarctic Ocean to provide a new color, black like the New Moon (also known as the Black Moon).
Like the watches that make up the Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms, this sixth installment integrates a Swatch Sistem51 mechanical movement, the first and only mechanical movement whose production is fully automated.
This mechanism is made up of only 51 parts, including a central screw, it has an autonomy of 90 hours and is completely antimagnetic thanks to its Nivachron™ hairspring. In 2013, the Sistem51 movement revolutionized the world of automatic watches and revealed the details of its movement: “the front tells the time, the back tells the story.”
