War conflicts have evolved over the years, as has the society that has to experience them in an almost cyclical manner. From the trenches of World War II and Vietnam we have moved on to the remote bombings that are being experienced these days in Israel and the Gaza Strip. One of the aspects that has evolved with technology are intelligence services: information collectors, those experts in anticipating the movements of others.

This morning Espejo Público interviewed a person who understands these terms, an expert in cybersecurity and intelligence. Fernando Cocho has spoken with the team of the morning show about this new conflict that has been filling headlines for weeks in the written press, online and other media. However, Susanna Griso would have made a huge mistake by discovering her live location, a fact that she preferred to keep hidden.

It was not the first time that Cocho connected live with the Antena 3 program, having collaborated with them on different occasions to talk about the war in Israel, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and even the assault on the United States Capitol in January 2020. On this occasion, however, the interview included an unexpected detail, which forced the presenter to correct her. It was after a simple question: “I think you are serving me from Lebanon, right?”

Faced with the question, Cocho has chosen to divert attention and not clarify its exact location. “I’m outside of Madrid,” he answered. Susanna Griso soon reacted to the cybersecurity expert’s reply, issuing a quick apology: “Forgive me if I didn’t have to say about Lebanon, as I understand that, in short, you wanted some discretion regarding your movements.” Immediately afterwards, the interview continued without any major difficulties.

Two weeks ago, Cocho was already responding to the attack that started it all: the bombing and massive assault by Hamas in Israeli territory. “The problem is that this has been reported for many months. Hamas has been preparing this for a long time, it has been prepared in a fully coordinated manner. They have provoked quick actions to avoid retaliation. It will not be the first nor the last and Israel’s response will be forceful,” he commented.

Likewise, he also drew the map of the conflict of recent weeks, complicated by the attacks in Syria and the West Bank: “It is one more point of bankruptcy towards a totally different geopolitical scenario. Russia has long supported Hamas and Iran. This was already known, when Hamas has been silent for so long I assumed this was going to happen. This for Hamas is an absolute and resounding success. “Israeli military intelligence was looking the other way instead of protecting their country.”
