American society is in suspense after the disappearance of the daughter of Stewart Butterfield, co-founder of Slack. The young Mint Butterfield, 16, was last seen on Sunday, April 21, at approximately 10 p.m. in the town of Bolinas, located in California. The search is still active and authorities are already working on the case.
Adam Schermerhorn, public information officer for the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, told People magazine on Thursday that authorities “are still actively investigating leads and working with the child’s mother to try to acquire digital devices and other items that could have information.”
On the other hand, Schermerhorn assured that the Police hope that the personal belongings of the young woman, who identifies herself with the pronouns they/them, will help provide information about her whereabouts, or that they will help clarify the reason for her disappearance. On the other hand, Schermerhorn explained that authorities “have no reason to believe there was foul play” or “anything criminal” in this case.
According to a news release issued by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Mint is considered a “voluntarily missing person.” For her part, Caterina Fake, the young woman’s mother, reported her missing after discovering a note on Monday morning indicating that Mint was gone. “It is unclear how Mint left the area, as she did not have access to a vehicle or a phone,” the police statement said.
“At this time, we have no information to believe that Mint was taken against his will. The Sheriff’s Office is considering Mint a voluntarily missing juvenile, who is ‘at risk’ due to a prior reported suicide threat,” they were saying. On the other hand, they believe that Mint may have traveled to the Tenderloin district of San Francisco, since Mint “has a history of substance abuse and is known to frequent the Tenderloin.”
According to the San Francisco Standard, Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake co-founded Flickr in 2004 before selling it to Yahoo in 2005. Following their divorce in 2008, Stewart co-founded Slack, which Forbes says was acquired in July 2021 for $27.7 billion. Although he left the company behind in 2022, the business magazine estimates that the businessman’s personal wealth is around $1.6 billion. We will have to wait to find out more details about this disappearance.
