Manuel Alejandro revealed that Rosalía shared her intentions for the performance in a previous phone call from a gym in Seville, where she was with Alejandro Sanz. “I thought it was wonderful,” said the composer, who admitted that Rosalía’s performance touched him deeply.
The artist managed to convey a connection with the song that resonated with the audience, in Alejandro’s words: “She staged it better than Rocío Jurado.”
The composer, known for his ability to capture the performer’s feelings, recalled that when he composed the song for Rocío Jurado, the artist was going through difficult times in her marriage to boxer Pedro Carrasco, whom she divorced in 1989.
During her performance at the Latin Grammys, Rosalía not only captivated with her emotionality, but also introduced changes to the lyrics, adapting them to her style. The artist, dressed in an elegant black suit, surrounded by an orchestra of guitars, transformed the phrase “our love broke from using it so much” into “or from not using it,” adding a new layer of meaning to the emblematic song.
