“Take me on your bicycle, so we can play ball and rag there in Chancleta. If one day you show Pique Tayrona, he won’t want to go to Barcelona later,” Shakira sang along with Carlos Vives in the famous hit La Bicicleta , which became one of the summer anthems of the Latin public worldwide back in 2017.
A song, included on her album El Dorado, in which the father of the Colombian woman’s children was directly named, with whom she was totally in love… At that moment. Years later, we all know how she ended that whole story, and therefore, the artist would have made an important decision: change her success and delete Gerard Piqué from the famous song.
Shakira and Carlos Vives were reunited on stage when the one from Barranquilla gave him a surprise by appearing during one of his last concerts, at the Kaseya Center in Miami (United States), just when Vives began to sing La Bicicleta. The artist surprised him when her verse in the song arrived, which left the man from Santa Marta speechless.
A moment that has already gone viral, but even more so what happened during that exciting performance: Shakira has changed the verses of the song that refer to the father of her children. Instead of what we’ve all been singing about for over six years, she now no longer directly refers to him.
“Take me on your bike, so we can play ball and rag there in Chancleta. If you show this guy the Tayrona, he won’t want to go to Barcelona later,” the artist sang, referring to someone we don’t have now no name, surname or a face. If it’s someone known, we don’t know, only time will tell if Shakira has something up her sleeve – and she wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case, given her background.
A song that returns renewed and that, in all likelihood, will once again be one of the most listened to in the coming days; because everything Shakira touches turns to gold. The song is “reborn”, giving the Colombian a new opportunity to, if she so wishes, modify some of her other songs dedicated to Piqué.
During the decade that their relationship lasted, Shakira dedicated some of her most successful songs to Catalan. Although she only named him directly in La Bicicleta, songs like Amarillo (2016), Me enamoré (2017), Perro faithful (2018) or Me gusta (2020) are dedicated to the former soccer player.
