Scotland’s Premier Nightclub Reduces Opening Hours Amidst Cost of Living Crisis

Nightclubs across Scotland have been grappling with financial challenges in the midst of the ongoing cost of living crisis. The Garage, known as Scotland’s biggest nightclub located on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow, has recently announced a significant change in its operational schedule.
Previously, The Garage was renowned for opening its doors every single day of the year, even on holidays such as Christmas. However, in response to the prevailing economic conditions and evolving clubbing trends, the establishment has made the decision to restrict its opening days to just Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Special events and gigs may still be hosted on select occasions.
Donald MacLeod, the owner of The Garage, cited escalating expenses and declining foot traffic in the city center as key factors behind this shift. He emphasized that the decision was a proactive measure to navigate through the quieter summer season and the challenging business environment.
The broader context of the cost of living crisis, coupled with factors like the Low Emission Zone (LEZ), parking charges, and ongoing roadworks, has placed additional strain on businesses in the city.
