Sara Carbonero is a style benchmark and as such none of her outfits, at large events or on the street, are casual. On Instagram, she publishes glimpses of her style every day, always close to the boho aesthetic and made up of timeless basics. In the last image of her published on the networks, the model and journalist recovers a shoe that bears little relation to her style and yet, they are a classic of the nineties.
Vans lace-up checkerboard sneakers, designed by brothers Paul and Jim Van Doren, are part of the counterculture aesthetic of the 1970s and into the 2000s. They have been a benchmark for several generations of skaters, but also the star footwear of grunge.
Although it has never gone out of style, the Vans 44 Authentic model had its heyday in the seventies when it became the favorite shoe for skaters due to the grip of its rubber sole.
Its affordable price, currently costing about 55 euros, made this shoe an essential in adolescents’ wardrobes. Famous people like Kristen Stewart, a fervent defender of the grunge aesthetic, took them to the red carpets in the 2000s and Kurt Cobain did the same on stage in the 1990s.
As Carbonero demonstrates, the shoe is easily combinable with an urban look, made up of black skinny jeans and a basic T-shirt in neutral tones. The leather jacket is the star touch to complete the look.
