The RTVE Sports Directorate, until now in the hands of Arsenio Cañada since February 2020, will pass to the journalist Rosana Romero, whose job will be to coordinate “all sports information” on television, radio and digital content.
This was communicated by the Corporation itself in a statement on Monday, where it explained the departure of Cañada after three and a half years in his position and after presenting the sports content of the Newscast since September 2014. For his part, Carles González, to date director of RTVE Instituto, will be the new deputy director of Sports of RTVE and director of the Teledeporte channel.
Arsenio Cañada leaves the direction of the Sports department, to which he has been linked since February 2020, and after presenting the sports content of the Newscast since September 2014, to return to the territorial center of Catalonia, in Sant Cugat del Vallès.
There he will continue to be linked to the world of sport and, according to what the journalist told his team, the resignation is due to a “personal decision”. Let us remember that, during the Qatar 2022 Soccer World Cup, the controversy arose over the clothing of the RTVE members destined for the country, since they wore the clothing of a well-known men’s brand with its logo clearly visible. A fact that would contravene the rules of the public entity, which does not allow advertising to be broadcast without a contract involved, and which reached the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office due to an anonymous complaint.
Now, Arsenio Cañada has made the decision to leave his position in the direction of Sports of RTVE, a position that from now on will be occupied by the journalist Rosana Romero, whose job will be to coordinate “all sports information” on television, radio and digital content.
Romero, a graduate in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid, has been linked to the public channel for 26 years, also as a sports presenter. In fact, she was head of sports for TVE news for four years (2010-2014) and also sports editor for the weekend newscast (September 2019-May 2021).
Likewise, throughout his career, Romero has covered five Olympic Games, three World Cups and Euro Cups, and for years he has covered the tennis circuit following athletes such as Rafa Nadal or Carlos Alcaraz. We are talking about a very appreciated journalist in the sports section of RTVE and, as we can see, with a great experience behind her.
