The crime committed by the Urban Police has once again become one of the main topics of today. A media stir that has intensified in recent weeks due to the recent premiere of the series The Body on Fire on Netflix and the simultaneous premiere of The Rosa Peral Tapes.
In this new audiovisual project, Peral gives her version of the events that occurred on May 1, 2017, when both she and her partner Albert López were accused of murdering and burning the body of their patrol partner and current partner of Rosa Peral in the moment of the crime, Pedro Rodríguez.
In the trial held in 2020, both tried to blame each other, giving two completely different versions of the crime. But the jury found them both guilty, with a prison sentence of 25 years for Rosa Peral and 20 years for Albert López.
Six years after the atrocious crime, Rosa Peral continues to insist on her defense and not only through the new Netflix documentary, now she has also spoken with the Antena 3 program Y Ahora Sonsoles, where she has once again assured that she is completely innocent.
”I am innocent of what I am accused of. I have not killed Pedro. I have said it a thousand times and I will continue to repeat it. “I’m not going to stop fighting for something that I don’t consider fair,” he said. ”The sentence is not a fair sentence. An extra has been applied to my sentence, ten years of supervised release. It seems surreal to me that I am being sentenced to murder when we don’t even know what the death was like,’ he declared.
Carlos Quílez, the journalist who spoke with her on the phone, told her that there were only three possible options for what had happened on May 1, 2017. Either it was Albert, or it was her, or it was both of them. ”Here one of the two was lying. It was known from the beginning. From the beginning I said exactly the same thing (…). Her lawyer was present at the statement, which she cannot be. Once he heard my statement, he went down and spoke to him (…). I explained it from the first moment, Albert was rambling, he was changing the versions,’ Peral assured.
Regarding the information she had about Albert López, Peral was very clear. ”I neither have nor want to know. For me he has a mental illness. What we colloquially understand as a psychopath. He has no empathy, he is cold, he only thinks about him,’ she asserted. Peral also assured that with the series “another media trial” has been held again. ”I ask that I be allowed to serve the sentence that they have given me, but not the one that is given to me with a series. “What they are looking for is morbidity, bringing out what they say is my supposed life,” she stated.
