Two months have passed since the arrest of Daniel Sancho, son of actor Rodolfo Sancho, after confessing to being the author of the murder of surgeon Edwin Arrieta. The 29-year-old man from Madrid has been in provisional detention since August 7 in Koh Samui prison waiting for a trial date to be set.
A process in which you must appear represented by a lawyer from the country, as dictated by Thai laws. At the moment, the young man only has a legal team in Spain, led by criminal lawyer Marcos García Montes, who took charge of the case after Rodolfo Sancho dispensed with the services of Thai lawyer Anan Chuayprabat due to “discrepancies in the defense.” .
The actor, through his lawyers, has issued a new statement in which he denies some statements made by the Thai lawyer, allegedly given to Semana magazine.
“In response to the latest news that appeared in different media, in relation to the statements made by the Thai lawyer Mr. Anan, we want to deny said statements in their entirety, since we have been in contact with the aforementioned lawyer, through the owner of the professional office in which Mr. Anan provides his services, deny that any type of statement has been made about the case,” they affirm, ensuring that the lawyer confirms that he has not issued opinions on the matter “to any accredited media for this purpose”, because if this had been the case, “it would directly damage their reputation and professionalism”.
The law firm also confirms that neither Marcos García-Montes nor his team have maintained contact with the Thai lawyer. Information that reveals the complications they are facing when collecting information for the defense of Daniel Sancho, given the inability to access all the necessary documentation and information. Among others, the result of the autopsy protocol and photographic report, where the causes of Edwin Arrieta’s death were scientifically proven.
As the statement states, Daniel Sancho currently lacks a Thai lawyer to represent him, but his father’s law firm calls for calm: “It is reported that at the appropriate procedural moment said lawyer will be incorporated who will collaborate in the defense of Don Daniel Sancho”.
A trial that, for the moment, still does not have a start date. What’s more, on October 5, Daniel Sancho himself appeared before the judge in what marked his first release from prison, and where the period of provisional detention was extended for another 12 days at the request of the Prosecutor.
