These have been very hard months for the artist Rafael Amargo. The dancer is currently in jail awaiting trial for an alleged drug trafficking crime. The Justice ordered his entry into prison due to the breach of precautionary measures (he had to sign in court every 15 days) and the risk of escape that existed in relation to the trial that will be held next April. Amargo faces a case for which he could be sentenced to 9 years in prison.
Although the Andalusian’s legal team tried by all means to obtain provisional freedom for the television personality, this was denied because there are many possibilities that Amargo will try to flee.
After his entry into prison, people close to his inner circle declared that Rafael had adapted well to the circumstances and that he had even made friends with some of the prisoners held in the Soto del Real prison.
However, the situation has taken a 180 degree turn. With the arrival of 2024, Amargo made the drastic decision to go on hunger strike and, since January 4, he has not taken any type of food.
As revealed by the Fiesta program, which Emma García presents on weekends on Telecinco, Amargo “has hit rock bottom.” His lawyer, Ana Isabel Peña, has confirmed to the media that the situation is critical, that the artist is “totally emaciated” and that in these ten days without eating food he has lost more than 10 kilos.
”They weigh him every day to see if he is really losing weight or if he is failing to comply and they told him ‘choose, either you die or you stop the hunger strike.’ There are no reasons for him to be in prison, I would say that it is rather a diabolical strategy, he is serving time when he has not even been tried and they allege a flight risk when there has never been one because he did go to trial,” the lawyer stated.
The hunger strike that has the Granada artist powerless would be just one of the many physical hardships he is enduring, since a few days ago it came to light that he had been infected with coronavirus.
Luciana Bongianino, the defendant’s wife, visited the Fiesta set and clarified that her partner is slowly recovering from Covid-19 and that, although he is extremely thin, he continues to trust in Justice and in getting out of jail.
