On the third Tuesday in September, Prince’s Day (Prinsjesdag) is celebrated in the Netherlands, an event that marks the opening of Parliament after the summer and is one of the most solemn and pompous annual events of the Orange-Nassau family. This year marks the tenth year of William Alexander’s reign and this is how he began by remembering it in his speech before the powers of the Dutch State.

This has also marked the debut of his second daughter, Princess Alexia, who came of age on June 26. For the occasion, Alexia – who is taking a sabbatical year after sharing classrooms with Princess Leonor at the UWC Atlantic College in Wales – wore a long fuchsia dress from the Australian brand Zhivago. Her older sister, Crown Princess Amalia, attended the event for the second consecutive year and chose a blue design from the Safiyaa brand.

For her part, Máxima, whose choice of clothing at this event is always noted, has surprised for the first time wearing pants. The queen of the Netherlands got out of the carriage dressed in a peach-colored outfit that featured palazzo pants and a colorful coat all by Danish designer Claes Iversen. The couple’s other daughter, Princess Ariane, 16, is studying for an international baccalaureate at the UWC Adriatic in Italy.

For a few years now, the event that brings together the members of the Senate and the House of Representatives with the Dutch Crown has not been held at the Parliament headquarters as has been customary since 1904. Due first to the Covid-19 pandemic and then Due to the renovation of the parliamentary headquarters building, alternatives were sought to celebrate this event. In 2020 and 2021 it was held in the Grote Kerk church and for the second year in a row it was held at the Royal Theater in The Hague.

Princess Alexia, nicknamed Máxima’s rebellious daughter, has attracted attention in recent years for her freshness, little shyness and overwhelming personality in front of the cameras. On September 9, she premiered in her first official solo act. She was in charge of inaugurating a boat in Rotterdam belonging to the Young Van Oord youth association. For the occasion she rescued a dress from her mother by Oscar de la Renta.
