King Charles III was undergoing surgery to treat an enlarged prostate problem just a few days ago, but on the afternoon of Monday, February 5, Buckingham Palace announced the worst news: the British monarch, 75 years old, has been diagnosed with cancer.
As the statement explains, during the intervention something worrying was found that, after tests, was identified as a form of cancer. The sovereign has paused his official commitments for the moment to treat his illness, but it has already been announced that his youngest son, Prince Henry, will go to London as soon as possible.
Prince Henry would have made the decision to travel to London in the coming days after the announcement of his father’s illness. According to sources close to the British press, he will do it alone. His wife, Meghan Markle, and his children, Archie (4) and Lilibet (2), will stay at his residence in California (United States).
The youngest son of the monarch has traveled to the United Kingdom in recent months to attend to his judicial matters against the British press, without meeting his father. The last time Meghan Markle was in the country was for the state funeral of Elizabeth II, in September 2022.
The news of the monarch’s illness has shaken the population. Although it has not been specified what type of cancer it is, it has been made clear that it had nothing to do with the type of operation he underwent a few days ago.
Before sending the official statement, the sovereign personally informed his two sons, William and Henry, about his delicate situation; as well as his brothers, Ana, Andrés and Eduardo.
The illness of Charles III could cause an unexpected situation: that Princes William and Henry will be forced to put aside their differences and their bad relationship for the good of their father.
It is unknown if the two brothers have spoken about what happened to their father, but the news of the diagnosis of the disease will force them to do so at some point; more with the Duke of Sussex about to travel to the United Kingdom to meet with the sovereign and with Prince William as second in the line of succession, first in case of having to assume all royal duties if his father were incapacitated.
