Pedro Piqueras is one of the faces best known to the audience in our country. After 17 years at the helm of Telecinco News, the communicator decided to put an end to his television career and retire to quietly enjoy his people.
December 21 was the day chosen by the man from Albacete to connect with the audience for the last time on Telecinco’s nightly news program. This date will go down in history as a before and after in Spanish journalism, since it put an end to one of the longest careers in the history of communication in our country.
Piqueras retired because, after 51 years dedicating himself body and soul to the dissemination of news through different media and channels, he believed it was time to give way to new profiles. ”I leave with the best memories of having been with you for so many years. I wish you times of less tension, more justice and more happiness. “Very good night and see you always,” she said in his last connection.
Last Monday, January 15, his successor, the acclaimed journalist Carlos Franganillo, premiered on prime time access on the main Mediaset España network. As expected, the journalist’s debut generated a lot of expectation and, generally, received positive reviews.
During his first month of retirement, Piqueras has had time to do everything he wanted, although it must be taken into account that this period has coincided with the Christmas holidays, a time when there are a series of family and festive commitments that mark the routine of thousands of people.
Although he wanted to get away from the small screen, Piqueras attended the TardeAR program yesterday to take stock and connect with the public weeks after retiring. During his visit, the communicator explained that he is now organizing different plans that he could not make before: “This week I have been having a beer with my son at eight, which is something I could not do before. It is good to know how to say goodbye, there is You have to value your free time, the people you love, your friends…”.
During the Christmas holidays, Piqueras decided to take a getaway to the Sierra de Albarracín (Teruel). The rest of the month he has dedicated himself to enjoying his favorite plans: reading, playing the guitar, learning to play the piano, meeting friends for lunch or dinner, etc.
It should be noted that, last Tuesday, January 16, Piqueras received the prestigious Jesús Hermida award at the Iris Awards gala of the Television Academy for his incredible career on the small screen, an achievement that made him very excited.
