American actor Austin North has made a lot of headlines in recent hours. According to a police report obtained by TMZ, the interpreter of the character Topper Thornton in the hit Netflix series, Outer Banks, has been arrested after allegedly attacking several employees in the emergency room of the University Medical Center hospital in Las Vegas. (Snowfall). The events happened last Tuesday, and now the actor has spoken out about the altercation in which he himself was involved.
According to the police report, the 27-year-old actor attacked several nurses and a phlebotomist after going to the emergency room. Local authorities reported that the actor hit one nurse in the head, another in the face and ended up pushing the phlebotomist against a table. The latter reportedly used a nearby tray and hit him on the head as an act of self-defense. Eventually, hospital security detained North and handcuffed him to a gurney.
When police arrived at the scene, the Marvelous Disaster actor confirmed that he understood he was being arrested for assault. There he was arrested and booked for misdemeanor assault. He was later released on bail. Before the incident, North was in Las Vegas to attend the Super Bowl, held last Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. After the altercation came to light, the actor has reappeared on social networks to publicly apologize.
In a statement shared on her Instagram stories, North addressed the incident. “I am deeply upset by the events that took place in Las Vegas last week. My friend took me to the hospital because I thought he was having a heart attack,” he began by explaining. “They did several tests on me, including a blood test, which was negative for detecting drugs or alcohol in my system. I was suffering from a severe anxiety attack,” he said.
“I have very few memories of what happened that day in the hospital. I have the greatest respect for the health workers and the hospital staff,” he continued explaining, ensuring that he was totally out of his mind, and that anxiety had a lot to do with his behavior. “I have struggled with anxiety on and off for years and this was the most extreme panic attack I have ever had. From now on, I hope to shed light on this debilitating disorder and send hope to those who have also struggled,” she said.
Before rising to fame thanks to Outer Banks, North was a star in the Disney Channel universe. One of his first acting roles was in the Disney XD series Kickin’ It, but he is best known for his role as Logan Watson in the series It Wasn’t It! from Disney Channel. Additionally, he had starred in some roles in shows like Jessie and All Night before his debut in the hit Netflix production.
