Opera Theatre of St. Louis is gearing up for its 50th anniversary season next year, and they have some exciting plans in store. General Director Andrew Jorgensen expressed his enthusiasm for this milestone, stating that it’s a time to celebrate and be even more ambitious about the future. The 2025 Festival Season was recently announced, featuring a lineup of operas that will run from May 24 to June 29.

One of the highlights of the season is the world premiere of “This House” by Ricky Ian Gordon, Lynn Nottage, and Ruby Aiyo Gerber. Jorgensen described this opera as the centerpiece of the season, telling the story of a family sharing a Harlem brownstone with ghostly inhabitants. The collaboration between Gordon, Nottage, and Gerber promises to bring a unique and compelling production to the stage.

In addition to the world premiere, the season will include performances of beloved operas such as “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss II, “Don Pasquale” by Gaetano Donizetti, and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Benjamin Britten. These operas will be staged at Webster University’s Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts and accompanied by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.

Jorgensen highlighted the significance of bringing back “Don Pasquale,” the opera that kicked off OTSL’s first season. Director Christopher Alden, a respected figure in the opera world, will return to helm this production, adding a nostalgic touch to the anniversary season. The lineup also includes familiar faces such as Leonard Slatkin, who will conduct Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and has been instrumental in OTSL’s success with world premieres and new music.

The season will culminate in the annual “Center Stage” showcase for OTSL young artist programs, curated by Artistic Director Patricia Racette. The Spring Gala on May 8, 2025, will honor the company’s 50th anniversary and pay tribute to founding General Director Richard Gaddes. Season subscriptions are now available for those eager to experience the magic of opera in St. Louis.

As OTSL prepares to mark this significant milestone, audiences can look forward to a season filled with world-class performances, innovative productions, and a celebration of the company’s rich history. Stay tuned for more updates and announcements as the 2025 Festival Season approaches.
