The case of the murder of Edwin Arrieta allegedly at the hands of Daniel Sancho continues to be one of the main topics in both national and international media. Two months ago, the son of actor Rodolfo Sancho confessed to the murder and dismemberment of the body of the Colombian surgeon on the Thai island of Ko Pha Ngan.
Since then, the Spanish chef has been in Koh Samui prison serving provisional imprisonment and waiting for the trial to take place. A few days ago, the Thai police delivered the case report to the Prosecutor’s Office, where they concluded that Daniel Sancho must answer for a sentence of premeditated murder and concealment of the body.
After putting an end to the police investigation, the trial, in which he could face the death penalty, would be increasingly closer, and is expected to be held at the end of the year or at the beginning of 2024. This Friday, the Sonsoles Ónega program revealed new images of the two, having fun in a bar in the capital, a month before the murder. Before giving details about their meeting, the Atresmedia space showed how a Colombian channel confused the alleged murderer with another worker at the premises.
Journalist Carlos Quílez explained that the images had been broadcast on Colombian television and recorded by Edwin Arrieta himself, which he later sent to one of his friends in Colombia.
In the video broadcast, we can see how the man who appears behind the bar is not Daniel Sancho. The program team managed to show how the real Spanish chef was in the same premises, but among the customers. Rodolfo Sancho’s son appeared in the video wearing a striped shirt and with his hair down.
Something that was repeated in later days, when Edwin Arrieta and Sancho returned to the premises to enjoy the company of several friends. Carmen Balfagón, spokesperson for the Sancho family, explained that the decision to come to Madrid was Edwin Arrieta’s own. ”Something happened in those few weeks and that is what we are trying to find out, if it is of interest to the issue of defense,” Balfagón declared.
Minutes later, the space connected with a reporter who was in the vicinity of the premises. ”We have managed to see the fake Daniel Sancho and in appearance he is identical to Daniel Sancho, tall, long hair, athletic. It is understandable that there has been this confusion. But he says that he is tired of this situation and that he has put the images in the hands of lawyers, because it is common for them to confuse him with him,’ the journalist explained.
