If there is an iconic sister duo in our country, it is undoubtedly that of Mónica and Penélope Cruz. Born in Alcobendas, one is dedicated to dance while another has succeeded in Hollywood. They are two years apart, but look like twin sisters. Even having different careers and lives, there are always people who confuse and compare them. A fact that Mónica now wanted to pronounce during an interview on the Hoy por Hoy program on Cadena SER.

Comparisons are hateful, but above all very unfair, especially when both parties have great talent. This is something that the youngest of the Cruzes, Mónica, has had to live with since she was little, since Penélope is one of the most beloved actresses in our country, but also in Hollywood, where she has been working since she was very young. Now the dancer has opened up about what it is like to be the sister of the actress.

“For me, seeing her work from such a young age, so hard, because she danced, she was in high school, she went to drama school, she didn’t have a spare second. Seeing all that effort, all that trajectory, has shown me that with work you can achieve everything and much more than you might think”, the 46-year-old dancer begins in her story.

After these emotional words, the space presenter, Àngels Barceló, ventured to ask her if “it could have been a drag on her career” being Penelope’s younger sister. On her side, Monica did not hesitate for a second when it came to answering. “It can put many stones in my way, but I don’t care, because for me the priority is my family, work is secondary,” Cruz said then.

“We are lucky to be able to live from what we like, but that will not affect. There is no competition. It is impossible. I cannot compete with my brothers. In fact, I celebrate their things more than my own, because mine happen and I think ‘great, let’s go for the next one'”, expresses the little girl from the Cruz. “When people tell me ‘I like you more than your sister’, I look at them and say ‘hello? You’re talking about my sister, if you have several children I hope you don’t educate like that, because it’s very ugly'”, still counting.

During the interview, the dancer did not stop praising her older sister, recognized for starring in films such as Madres Paralelas or Vicky Cristina Barcelona. “For me she has been an example to follow, seeing her entire career, how hard she has worked, going out alone… I have traveled a lot since I was young, but I went in a company, wrapped up. But going alone, sometimes another country, almost without speaking the language… as an older sister, she has been the best example I could have”, she ends by saying.
