Miguel Lago's viral monologue after the Óscar Puente incident on the AVE: "Is this the Spain we want?"

Last Friday, the socialist deputy Óscar Puente suffered a notorious incident on the AVE train that was transporting him to Madrid on the way to the second vote to invest Alberto Núñez Feijóo, which was once again unsuccessful. A man approached the former mayor of Valladolid, causing a great delay on the railway line as a result of his actions.

The event has provoked all kinds of reactions, some full of irony, like that of comedian Miguel Lago. The regular face of programs such as El Hormiguero or Y Ahora Sonsoles, both on Antena 3, has performed a monologue dedicated to the incident and comparing it with other escraches suffered by different politicians over recent years.

The comedian described what happened as “an event that demonstrates the terrible drift that Spanish society is taking” and made “a firm condemnation of such an event, because is this the Spain we want? Do we want anyone to suddenly cross into a deputy and suddenly he approaches, stands in front of him and says ‘mayor, what do you think about Puigdemont’? Is this the Spain we want?” Lago asked himself, always in an ironic tone.

“I’m embarrassed, right? I’m embarrassed, and they said: ‘the train left 45 minutes late’, as if it didn’t leave!”, was the way in which the comedian took the edge off the happened. “We are talking about a hyperviolent attack on a deputy of the Cortes Generales! No AVE should have left Spain, they should all have been stopped and they should all be with Óscar Puente!” He shouted from the stage.

Miguel Lago has compared what happened to Óscar Puente with other incidents involving different politicians, which were noticeably more serious. “We’re talking about something serious! We’re not talking about grabbing 9-month pregnant Begoña Villacís and starting spitting on her and pushing her, nor are we talking about grabbing [Cristina] Cifuentes and yelling ‘whore!’ and spitting, no, damn it! “, she said.

“If we continue like this and an attack like the one that Óscar Puente has suffered is allowed, what is going to happen next? That a madman hits a host in the face with a closed fist to a President of the Government? Oh, it’s already happened too “Forgive me,” he closed the monologue, alluding to the attack suffered by former president Mariano Rajoy in Pontevedra at the end of 2015.
