Last Monday, King Charles III announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer. At 75 years old and just 17 months after being crowned sovereign of the United Kingdom, the monarch has been forced to postpone his public duties in order to undergo the treatment scheduled by his doctors, which he has already begun.

The monarch communicated the news of his diagnosis in person to his two children. Prince Henry, who currently resides in the United States with his family, immediately took a flight to London to be by his father’s side. A trip that was not joined by his wife, Meghan Markle, who has remained in the United States with the couple’s two children: Archie (5) and Lilibet (2). However, the Duchess of Sussex has not neglected her routines and thus, she has been seen driving her own car through the streets of Montecito (California).

The former star of Suits has been captured by photographers showing a big smile while driving around her house. She wearing a white baseball cap from her charity, Archewell; and huge sunglasses, she did not go unnoticed by the press gathered around the property where the family resides.

The Duchess of Sussex appeared relaxed, sipping from a cup of coffee as she drove. This appearance is her first since her husband took a flight last Tuesday to London, where she met with her father after announcing her cancer diagnosis.

The prince was traveling to London on Tuesday to join his father at Clarence House, the monarch’s residence in the British capital. There he held a meeting with the sovereign that lasted about 45 minutes. Despite the short time they spent together, the visit has been evaluated very positively by sources close to the Palace.

24 hours later, Prince Henry returned to California, landing on Wednesday around five in the afternoon and completing his trip.

The Duchess of Sussex did not accompany her husband on this occasion, nor did she during the sovereign’s coronation ceremony as king last May. Despite the multitude of comments that the duchess decided to remain in the United States, there are several reasons why the prince’s wife chose to do so.

First, the prince made the decision to travel at the last minute, with him returning just 24 hours later. A trip of more than 8,000 kilometers to spend just a few minutes that was not worth altering the children’s routine.

In addition, the couple has an engagement next week in Canada to mark the first anniversary of Prince Harry’s Undefeated Games, so they might want to stay with their young children for as long as possible and be able to maintain their routines and normality.

Finally, the presence of Meghan Markle in the United Kingdom, after two years without having set foot in the country, would have attracted unnecessary attention to what is truly important, such as the health problems of the king and Kate Middleton, who is also on sick leave until after Holy Week.
