The figure of Diego Armando Maradona continues to generate headlines, even years after his death. Recently, his son, Diego Armando Maradona Jr., has generated a stir by making forceful statements about the circumstances surrounding the death of his father, one of the greatest football legends.

“We have a lot of faith in Argentine justice. I am convinced that this should not have ended like this. They abandoned him to his fate when something could have been done,” said Maradona Jr in an interview on the Mediaset Italia program Verrisimo. In this sense, his words suggest that there was some type of neglect and lack of adequate care for his father in his last days.

The Argentine star’s son, however, wanted to make it clear that Maradona’s death has at least one culprit, but did not want to give more details about his identity: “They killed my father. It is not my job to say who did it, I have my own idea but I can’t say it.”

Maradona Jr met his father in the last years of the star’s life, after a long fight for recognition of paternity. “They were four very nice years,” he commented, remembering the moments they shared. Despite the short time, the love and relationship they managed to create were deep.

In this way, although he did not enjoy his father too much, Maradona Jr wanted to join the legal battle that his sisters began against the medical team that treated Maradona in his last days, accusing them of “simple homicide with possible intent.”

Another of the open wounds that Maradona Jr has is not being able to say goodbye to his father. As he said in Verrisimo, the news of Pelusa’s death caught him by surprise while he was hospitalized for covid. “I turned on the television and saw that everyone was talking about his death. Then my wife confirmed the news to me,” he said.

Although several years have passed, he assured that “the feeling of emptiness will never disappear,” although he also acknowledged that the affection and memories shared by admirers from around the world offer some comfort.
