Last Monday the Mossos d’Esquadra arrested a 77-year-old retiree for drug trafficking in Llívia, Cerdanya. The news shocked his neighbors, who, despite the gossip, did not expect the man to be involved in such a large drug trafficking network.
The man’s name is Manolo and he dedicated his entire life to construction. As the newspaper Ara has reported, the detainee had a very quiet life in the Catalan town and every day he repeated the same simple routine: in the morning he drank coffee at the bar next to his house and went to play petanque with some of your friends. He would later take a walk and finally return home to eat.
According to the residents of the town, in the afternoons he would go with his white van full of tools to visit the garden he cultivated, a place where he would spend several hours until he decided to return to town. Although many of the inhabitants of this municipality of La Cerdanya describe him as a “lonely and independent” man and assure that he spent many hours on the street, they also defend that he is a “discreet and educated” man.
For years, there have been rumors in the town about the man and his illegal activities and even a neighbor has declared that it is something “everyone knew”, but what her neighbors did not know is that the situation was so serious and that Manolo could go to prison.
The gossips of the town nicknamed him ‘Manu Guix’, which has nothing to do with the artistic director of the Operación Triunfo academy. The young people of the town gave him that nickname because he sold a plaster (Guix in Catalan is plaster) that was not exactly “legal”.
Faced with such a coincidence with the names, hundreds of users on the net have named the composer in the news links, so he has ended up reacting to it. “I must admit that I laughed,” he wrote in a tweet that was filled with reactions in a matter of minutes.
”He sold the plaster (cocaine) under his house, where he had his van parked, and also in a park that is further out of town. Among the young people he was known and more than one remembers that the famous white van was often parked in front of a bank,” explained a resident of the municipality.
To stop him, the policemen were watching him for days. During said investigation, the authorities witnessed how the old man sold drugs to three different people. When they inspected his house, they found almost 4,000 euros in cash and some substances that he himself prepared to sell to his clients.
