Madrid will host Junior Eurovision in November

Madrid has been chosen as the venue for the next Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024, scheduled for November 16. The competition returns to broadcast on Saturday after eight years of being held on Sundays.

The public channel has confirmed that the children’s edition of the contest will take place at the Caja Mágica in the capital. Spain, after the resignation of France, which won the last edition in 2023, will be in charge of hosting and organizing the event.

The final of the Eurovision children’s contest will be the first Eurovision event that Spain has hosted since the adult contest in 1969, when Sandra Valero won second place in Nice. On that occasion, Madrid hosted the contest at the Teatro Real due to Massiel’s victory the previous year.

“We are very excited. Spain has not hosted any Eurovision event for many years, we think that we are really prepared to do it now and we want to do it,” commented Ana María Bordas, head of the Spanish Delegation at Eurovision.

In the last edition, the Valencian singer Sandra Valero was about to win with her song “Loviu”, obtaining second place. France, winner of the contest, declined the opportunity to organize the Junior Eurovision, thus passing the responsibility to Spain, who confirmed its commitment to holding the event this year.

Spain has proven to be an outstanding country in the festival, consistently obtaining good positions in all its participations: a victory with María Isabel and her song “Antes muerte que simple”, in addition to three second places, two third places, one fourth and one fifteenth.
