Warner Bros. Animation, New Line Cinema, and Sola Entertainment recently gave audiences at the Annecy Animation Festival a sneak peek of their upcoming anime movie, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.” The director, Kenji Kamiyana, drew inspiration from J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic books as well as the films by Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh. This new story takes place almost two centuries before the events of “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings,” focusing on the House of Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan, and his daughter, Princess Héra.

The preview showcased a tense moment during a council meeting that leads to a conflict with Wulf, a vengeful Dunlending lord. The talented voice cast includes Brian Cox as the King of Rohan and Gaia Wise as Princess Héra, with Miranda Otto returning to voice Éowyn. The film promises to captivate fans with its powerful story and unique animation style.

Producer Jason DeMarco highlighted the distinctive anime aesthetic of the movie, emphasizing that it is not simply an animated version of Peter Jackson’s films but a true reflection of Kamiyama’s vision. Andy Serkis, known for his role as Gollum, expressed his excitement for the new movie and teased his upcoming directorial projects.

In addition to reprising his role as Gollum in “Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” Serkis shared details about his performance-capture adaptation of George Orwell’s “Animal Farm,” offering a modern twist on the classic novel. With a release date set for December, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” is sure to captivate audiences worldwide with its epic tale of honor, betrayal, and courage.
