The 2020 MotoGP season marked a before and after in Marc Márquez’s meteoric sports career. It was in the first Grand Prix of the season, at the Jerez Circuit, where the Cervera driver suffered a terrifying fall that cost him a fracture of his right humerus. That incident would be the beginning of a long list of operations, problems and frustrations that, four years later, he hopes to resolve away from Honda.

A few weeks before the start of the season in Qatar, Marc and his brother Álex visited the set of El Hormiguero, the Antena 3 nighttime program presented by Pablo Motos. The two brothers, now teammates at Gresini Racing on a Ducati, have shared each other’s goals for the upcoming championship. Álex’s predictions about Marc have been the most striking.

Marc has predicted that Álex should be predisposed to consolidate among the top 7 or 8 positions before climbing to the Top 5, staying there and being able to compete for podiums and victories in the long term. For his part, the little brother has predicted to the eldest that he can return to the top of the table, as long as he has patience and the necessary low profile, in addition to “not getting hot.” A poignant reflection to close a stormy cycle around the Tro.

Since he crashed in Jerez in July 2020, Marc Márquez has had to undergo eight operations on his right arm, 71 falls in four seasons (29 of them last season, marking his personal record), 3 only victories obtained in Germany, Austin and Misano in 2021 and a divorce with the team that catapulted him to success in MotoGP, the Honda Racing Team. The Cervera driver himself has recognized that patience must be the key.

He himself pointed out that in the preseason tests he maintained his composure despite looking fourteenth or eighteenth after several hours on the track. He recognized that after four years he had broken practically everything, that he had not achieved a victory for two years and that patience would be the key to re-establish himself and, eventually, return to the top. However, he also admitted that he cannot approach the season with the championship as a goal.

Consistency and results will be the priority for the eight-time world champion after a record-breaking season on the ground. “In the past, he could save those falls, even last year. However, this year, especially since we put in the new aerodynamic package, I am not able to save them. The performance of the bike was a little better, it seems like we were a little faster, but the bike was a little more unpredictable when you fall or not,” he explained at the time.
