TikTok filters are not limited to aesthetic issues to have a different skin tone, thicker or thinner lips, etc., but there are also games. Specifically, rankings are one of the most used elements for content creators like actor Julián Lladó, who puts it to the test every time he sees a Disney filter.
One of these lists is that of Catalan names and other influencers such as Joan Rafart, Familia Caricu, or already with a large community of followers, Laura Escanes have already played with this filter. Since he debuted on TV3 presenting La Travessa, which will have a second season, he has published more content in Catalan on his social networks, and one of the last videos made was in which he put this filter to the test. “I don’t get the vibe that it’s a super Catalan name,” said Escanes in reference to the name Kàtia.
The first name that appeared in the filter, which has an empty list from one to five and a sign in which the name to be positioned at the discretion of the content creator appears, was Kàtia. Laura Escanes decided to make a list from least to most and this name came in fifth position.
Roser was the second name to come up. “I love it,” said the influencer. “It’s so pretty…” she added and ranked it in second position. Then Jan appeared, and took first position. “Without a doubt it has to be in the first position,” she commented.
“Estel. I like it but I’m going to put it at number four,” Escanes said after adding that the name reminded him of a nursery school or a camp center, which in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community is known as “esplai.”
Only the third position was vacant and the name that came out to the influencer was Fe. “Fe. Wow,” she said before cutting the video.
Escanes’ followers highlighted that they really liked listening to her speak in Catalan, and there are those who pointed out that, despite not being Catalan, they had understood her perfectly. Some women named Roser were grateful for the words, while others debated Kàtia’s origin.
“Kàtia is not Catalan,” highlighted a user of the platform. Is she or is she not a Catalan name? She is actually of Russian origin, and in Catalan she is Caterina.
