The good news about Sergio Rico continues. After more than 20 days of uncertainty in which the PSG footballer was sedated to avoid major injuries and have better control of his health, the athlete is conscious and responds to certain stimuli. In addition, he can communicate by gestures with doctors and with his relatives, something that has sown hope in his close circle.
The goalkeeper suffered an accident when he fell from a horse while enjoying the pilgrimage in El Rocío, Huelva, on Sunday, May 28. The health professionals present in the meadow ordered his immediate transfer to the Virgen del Rocío e Sevilla University Hospital, since the young man had serious injuries.
Doctors admitted Rico to the hospital’s ICU for a head injury, where he was sedated for three weeks. During all this time, the doctors who attended to his evolution expressed to the family that “every day was important”, so the situation became truly distressing.
There was a moment in which the toilets ordered to reduce the sedation to see how the Sevillian reacted, but his condition worsened again. On the other hand, last Monday the good news arrived and the Telecinco program Ya es mediodía confirmed that Rico was “better” and that the sedation had been “definitely” withdrawn.
Alba Silva, the goalkeeper’s wife, spoke to the press yesterday and declared that she felt more relieved now that the evolution was beginning to be positive: “We are taking small steps forward and the truth is that we are already seeing the light a little more.”
Silva implied that her husband had regained consciousness and that they were encouraged by this small big step: “Yes, little by little he is going and I knew from the beginning that he was going to move forward because he is a champion.”
The best news that has come out in recent hours is that the goalkeeper has regained consciousness and has been able to communicate with his family through gestures. According to sources close to the hospital, his vocal cords were affected after being sedated and intubated since May 28. This may result in a slow wait before he can speak again, but for now it’s a giant leap.
