Televisión Española has been in the spotlight for weeks now. The public channel has been preparing a strong bet for the next season for some time, in which they will have to compete on different fronts against programs of the likes of TardeAR, the new project of Ana Rosa Quintana. For this, the filming and the signings are already underway, each time covering more and more holes in the grid. But a very prominent one will be filled from 2024.

As reported by the Audiovisual 451 portal, the corporation’s fiction department has acquired Zorro, the new series from Amazon Prime Video and Secuoya Studios starring Miguel Bernardeau, for its free broadcast. The new adaptation of the character created by Johnston McCulley will first premiere in the Spanish streaming catalog during the first half of 2024, before being broadcast on La 1.

This series will be set in the city of Los Angeles around 1830, in an emerging world in which different races and nationalities try to coexist without mishap. The aforementioned Miguel Bernardeau will play the landowner Diego de la Vega and his masked side, along with other great talents such as Elia Galera, Joel Bosqued, Peter Vives, Chacha Huang and Fele Martínez. A cast that will try to show a classic story with a modern twist.

The person in charge of creating this new version of the vigilante has been Carlos Portela, and will have the triple direction of Javier Quintas, Jorge Saavedra and José Luis Alegría. From Secuoya Studios they emphasize the updated vision of the character that this series will show. “He is a symbol of justice and defender of the oppressed, a new beginning for an ancestral spirit that has been occupying different identities throughout the centuries,” said the producer.

This acquisition completes the fiction programming of Televisión Española until 2025. According to José Pastor, Zorro will team up with two other series: “We are working on launching Operación Barrio Inglés at the end of 2023 or at the beginning of 2024. For its part, Detective Touré has a main actor with a lot of charisma and will have a procedural structure, something that is rarely worked on in Spain and that travels very well, in fact, we already have the interest of several countries”.

Along with these efforts in the night sphere are added the afternoon and morning premieres. The series section is completed with La Promesa and La Moderna Tea Room, the last of which is already in the recording process. As for the early hours of the day, Jaime Cantizano will return to La 1 with Mañaneros, which this week announced the additions of Miriam Moreno and Marc Santandreu as main collaborators.
