Kim Kardashian was associated with reality television, Instagram, fashion and, well, any element of her private life. Now, however, she is clear about her goal: to dedicate herself to audiovisuals beyond narrating her life and that of her family. One more example of this change in professional direction is Calabasas, the new television project that has just been announced and that Kardashian will produce with Emma Roberts, her co-star in American horror story: Delicate.

Unlike the lawyer series she is preparing with Ryan Murphy and Jon Robin Baitz, this time she is not considering being the protagonist of her own production. Calabasas, who adapts the book If you lived here you’d be famous by now by Via Bleidner, wants to be a kind of OC for a new generation. It centers on Via, a Catholic teenager from the interior of the United States whose life changes when she moves to California and goes to study at a high school in Calabasas, a wealthy area of ??Los Angeles County.

Screenwriter Marlene King, known for her work as the creator of Pretty Little Liars, approached producer Alexandra Milchan, from Tár, to create this series. And what does Kardashian bring to the project? Legitimacy. The city of Calabasas, after all, is known precisely thanks to the Kardashian clan, originally from there, who raised the profile of the city of 23,000 people, like Miley Cyrus, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett.

Kardashian, Roberts, King and Milchan, aware that they had a long-awaited series on their hands, did not develop it for a particular studio but rather presented it to different platforms, so that whoever bid the highest amount would win it. And, while Deadline speculates that different platforms made offers, it was Netflix that convinced the production tandem.
