“It is not just a sneaker brand, it is a declaration of intentions, a path towards reinvention. With each step, we redefine reality, leaving an indelible mark on the world around us.” This is how Suaji, Julio José Iglesias’ new sneaker brand, is described on Instagram.
The son of Isabel Preysler and Julio Iglesias has embarked on this new professional adventure with three partners: Jesús, a photographer by profession; Javi, designer, and Pepe, expert in the footwear sector. “One day in Miami a good friend of mine, Jesús, introduced me to a person who has been making footwear in Spain all his life. We started talking about what we each like in the universe of sneakers and shortly after they suggested I launch the brand,” the businessman explained to the Vanitatis portal.
The singer, also a nod to his father, has chosen the name of the brand: Suaji. It is the name of a street in Japan, a country that he knows very well thanks to the concerts that Iglesias gave when his son was younger.
In fact, the Japanese aesthetic is well present in the design of these sneakers, which are made entirely in Spain, specifically, in Elche. “They are shoes designed by us and we are very proud of the result,” he says.
Iglesias, who usually wears sneakers in his daily life, has also decided to design his own model, the Haight St, in black and with metallic finishes. As he assures, all the models are “very comfortable” and there is a wide variety of shades to choose from.
As for his family, Julio José says that his mother is “happy” about this new professional side and that his sister Tamara Falcó has also given him her opinion, since she has been dedicated to clothing design with her brand TFP for some time. “My sister Tamara says they are super cool and she is happy that I also do something in the fashion world,” he says.
