Jean Paul Gaultier is one of the most renowned names in the fashion industry. Some of his designs are famous and iconic, such as the imposing corset that Madonna wore on her Blond Ambition Tour in 1990 or the sailor shirt that became her trademark and exalted as a luxury garment in the men’s wardrobe.
The French designer did not learn the trade in any renowned school, magazines were his great inspiration to create a unique universe of sewing that ultimately sought to reflect the most sensual and libertarian part of society.
After conquering catwalks around the world, Gaultier’s vision now reaches the stage, specifically in Barcelona, ??at the Teatro Coliseum.
The couturier and versatile artist goes to El Hormiguero this Thursday to talk about his new project ‘Fashion Freak Show’, which arrives on April 4 in Barcelona, ??and will feature some of his muses, such as Rossy de Palma and Catherine Deneuve.
Jean Paul Gaultier’s history in the luxury industry begins in 1976 with the presentation of his first collection. Lingerie as a weapon of empowerment that we see incessantly on the catwalks today was already there at that time and he was also a pioneer in inviting stars and celebrities, such as Madonna, to his haute couture shows.
Among his great creations are the corseted dress, the fitted jacket and the aforementioned sweater or sailor shirt. In 2020, the couturier decided to leave the haute couture catwalk and focus on new projects.
