Itziar Castro died on December 8, at the age of 46. T he Catalan performer, protagonist of successful series such as Vis a vis, will forever leave a gap that is difficult to fill for his family, colleagues and friends. They all came to say goodbye to her in Pallejá (Barcelona), at the wake organized early on Sunday morning.
His parents, Lucía Rivadulla and Manuel Castro, were the first to arrive. Always very discreet and in her first public appearance at such a tragic moment, the actress’s mother, visibly devastated, wanted to have a few words for the media.
Lucía Rivadulla was kind enough to attend to the press gathered there to say her last goodbye to her daughter. Through tears, she wanted to refer to the media and thank all the expressions of affection she had received in the last few hours. “She was very good, she had nothing, me and everyone. So, thank everyone because I really didn’t expect this reception from her.”
The actress’s mother thanked the media for their respect for her daughter, even making a reference to one of her media “enemies”: Risto Mejide. “The media has always treated her very well. Even Risto Mejide, who I thought was an aggressive man in the interviews and the day he interviewed her, he even cried,” she confessed.
Throughout the day, dozens of friends and celebrities came to say their last goodbye to Itziar, who became one of the most vocal interpreters on social rights, in addition to being one of the most representative faces of the LGTBI collective.
On Monday, December 10, between 09:00 and 16:00, the funeral chapel will take place, also in Pallejá; although this time intended for the actress’s closest family and friends. Afterwards, there will be a ceremony organized by her representatives and her friends to “toast to her generous friendship,” something she would have liked.
“Some of Itziar Castro’s many friends have believed that the best way to say goodbye to her with the affection she deserves is to get together and remember her together and toast her generous friendship,” they write, through their public Instagram profile. “May her art, her commitment, her energy, her fight and her kindness always illuminate us. You will never stop being with us, dear Itziar.”
The actress was in a pool in Lloret de Mar (Girona) rehearsing for an artistic swimming show. At one point, lighting tests were being carried out and, around 1:30 a.m., the actress began to feel “bad.” Therefore, an emergency team went to her location and tried to revive her without success.
His friends, the director and screenwriter Frankie de Leonardis, confirmed his death on social networks shortly after. “He left an indelible mark with his remarkable performance and charisma.”
