The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is currently investigating the disappearance of Tara Capps, a 36-year-old woman who was found dead inside a storage tote in the woods a week after she was reported missing. Capps’ family received a tip that she might be located in a wooded area behind a food distribution center on South Keystone Avenue. On Sunday, the family went out to search for her and tragically found her lifeless body inside a storage container.

Tara Capps’ mother, Virginia Summers, expressed her grief and disbelief at the tragic loss of her oldest daughter. Summers mentioned that Capps was identified by her fingerprints and emphasized that she did not deserve such a fate. The family is still uncertain about how long Capps had been in the woods before being found.

The police have confirmed that Capps was reported missing on June 30 and are treating the case as a homicide investigation. At this time, there is no information available regarding potential suspects, motives, or the cause of death. The authorities are following up on various leads and awaiting the results of the autopsy report, which is expected to provide more insights into the case.

Summers expressed her determination to seek justice for her daughter, emphasizing that she will not rest until the perpetrators are brought to account. She urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist the authorities in their investigation. Detective Jeremy Ingram of IMPD can be reached at 317-327-3475 or via email at jeremy.ingram@indy.gov for any tips or leads.
