Chelsea Cutler, 25, a 25-year-old from Connecticut, sat backstage waiting for her time at Governors Ball in New York.
Cutler is not a newcomer to the music scene. Cutler has had more than 2 million Spotify streams since her 2017 arrival. Cutler was also one of Forbes’ “30 Under 30” music category leaders earlier this year.
Cutler’s success was not an overnight event for those who know her. Cutler’s mom, Jamie Yuccas, told CBS News that she knew when her daughter was nine years old that she would be a performer. Cutler, however, had other plans.
Cutler stated, “I always wanted to play soccer,” Cutler said, “I played soccer in college, but it wasn’t very well.” That dream, like ended too soon.”
Another dream was born after that one ended. Cutler uploaded music to SoundCloud in high school and college. Cutler said that it was mostly for friends. But then, the record labels began to call.
Her song “Your Shirt”, which was released in 2018, went viral. She was pushed again by her parents to become a musician.
Cutler said that his parents sat me down and were like, “You need to leave college.”
Cutler, with their support, quit school and began touring the country together with Quinn XCII. She signed with Republic Records in 2019, and her album “How to Be Human”, a year later, peaked at number 23 on Billboard 200 Music Charts.
Cutler struggled with anxiety, panic attacks and depression even though her star was rising.
On her latest album, “When I Close My Eyes”, the song “Devil on My Shoulder” is about depression.
Cutler stated that she can manage her anxiety and depression with medication, but it isn’t always easy.
“I’m truly grateful for medication. I’m really thankful you know. I’ve been in therapy for four years. She said that therapy is a huge part of her life.
Cutler has used her music to discuss her sexuality. Cutler claimed that her song, “Lucky”, was about her dog but was really about her girlfriend. Although she admitted that the experience was nerve-wracking, Cutler acknowledged that it helped many of her fans see themselves in her.
“When people approach you and say that they have been helped by your kindness. I was struggling. I appreciate your music.’ That’s what does it do for you? Yuccas asked.
Cutler replied, “It’s amazing that something I do solely for my own healing could be so beneficial to others.”
Cutler will return to tour in the fall. After that, she stated she would like to spend more time in her studio creating music and reaching new audiences.
“I don’t feel like my goal has been achieved in many ways, and I wouldn’t tell you that right now. She said that there are many things she wants to accomplish. “I would love to be able sell arenas one day.”
“Winning a Grammy would really be cool…But what I think is important, however, are real people. People that I can interact with and who truly benefit from my music. Cutler stated that this is what’s most important to him.
