At this point in the film, we already know by heart the damage that sun exposure does to our skin. As much as looking tanned makes us feel more favored, ultraviolet radiation accelerates skin aging, bringing with it sagging, wrinkles and spots. Not to mention the risk of getting burned if you don’t use adequate sun protection.
This does not mean that you should give up a tan in spring and summer. With the arrival of good weather, we welcome the benefits of self-tanning with open arms. Body self-tanners are widely used, but many people are still wary of facial tanners, believing that they will not look natural.
Nothing is further from reality. There is a wide variety of very good quality facial self-tanners on the market, with which you can raise the color of your face a few tones. Now, if you don’t want it to look orange, stained or streaked, it is important that you know how to apply it correctly.
The first step is to choose a facial self-tanner that is right for you. Given the variety on the market, you should look for one that fits your specific needs. For example, make it non-comedogenic if you have oily skin, or make it suitable for sensitive skin if that is your case. Also, select one with a tone intensity according to your complexion. No matter how much you want to tan, if you have very pale skin, don’t jump headlong into the darker tanner, as it won’t look natural.
Once you have chosen the desired self-tanner, it is time to get to work with its application. You should use it in your night routine, so that it takes effect and you wake up with tanned skin. Also, if you did it in your daytime routine, the makeup afterward would ruin the effect.
You have to apply the facial self-tanner on clean, dry and exfoliated skin. Remove your makeup, do your usual double cleansing and exfoliate your face – either with a chemical or mechanical exfoliant – to eliminate dead cells and so that the self-tanner is absorbed evenly.
Next, apply the self-tanner as if it were a serum: put a few drops in your hands (the amount will depend on the product chosen and the desired result) and apply it to your face, spreading it from the center outwards. Make sure to blend it very well in conflict areas such as the creases of the nostrils, the eye area and the hairline. Also extend excess product towards the neck and décolleté, to avoid pronounced contrasts. Finally, wash your hands well.
Do not apply anything else after the self-tanner, you must allow it to be completely absorbed. You should also avoid lying on the pillow until the product is completely dry. As for the frequency of application, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations, but as a general rule you can use it every other day until you get the desired tan. Afterwards, once a week will be enough to maintain the tone.
