Coinciding with the start of the year 2024, the different television networks take the opportunity to announce what will be their greatest assets for the coming months. All communication groups are releasing new content although, in the case of RTVE, one of its latest advertisements has not been without controversy.

This Wednesday, the public entity surprised by anticipating the arrival of a new program on La 1 over the next few weeks, The best in history. It is a format based on the BBC’s 100 Greatest Britons, and it has already been successfully adapted in many countries around the world.

In Spain, Silvia Intxaurrondo will be in charge of presenting a program in which viewers will be able to decide, from among 50 characters from fields as different as science, politics or communication, which is the most relevant face in the entire history of Spain. . The selection, according to the public entity itself, has been carried out through an opinion survey carried out by Sigma Dos.

This is precisely the point that has generated the most controversy among social media users, who do not understand the criteria by which the candidates have been selected. Some of them accuse RTVE of bias and lack of neutrality when choosing them, especially due to the presence of names such as Mercedes Milá, Julia Otero or Dolores Ibárruri ‘La Pasionaria’.

“I don’t even know where to start criticizing this”; “Seriously, I don’t even know how to begin to describe this horror”; “What a bullshit biased list”; “Have the children of Spain chosen them? The only thing missing is the letter to the King”… These are some of the messages that users have left on X (Twitter) in response to the RTVE announcement.

Others have used irony to describe their feelings when checking the list of historical figures: “Between Ortega y Gasset and Mercedes Milá I have my doubts,” wrote one tweeter. Among the absences most noted by users are names such as Hernán Cortés, El Cid Campeador or the dictator Francisco Franco.
