Yesterday, one of the most important electoral debates of the campaign was held on Spanish Television, ahead of the elections on Sunday, July 23. To everyone’s surprise, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the leading politician of the Popular Party, decided not to attend said television appointment and decline the invitation of the public channel.
For their part, Pedro Sánchez, Yolanda Díaz and Santiago Abascal did attend the debate and were able to present their programs, as well as their proposals for the next legislature and share their differences.
Esteban González Pons, the PP’s deputy secretary for Institutional Action, explained a few days ago that the popular leader was not going to attend the meeting because the party believed that the debates organized with the four main candidates “are incomplete models and lack interest” since they did not include the rest of the formations that are running in the elections and that this gave a glimpse of RTVE’s “lack of neutrality.”
Feijóo spoke in Al Rojo Vivo, a La Sexta program presented by Antonio García Ferreras, about the different reasons why he refused to participate in the political exchange with the leaders of other parties and made a geographical error that has given rise to much talk on social networks.
“Well, look, yesterday I had to do a rally in Mallorca and I went to Mallorca, and as soon as I left the Espejo Público studios, the truth is that when I got up from the chair I had a pull. I haven’t played sports for three weeks and I had a really bad time, “explained the leader of the Popular Party.
“They injected me as soon as I arrived in Mallorca with an Urbasón to try to hold the rally, and I was able to do it. Since yesterday we have already valued not going to Palma, because it is burning, and it does not seem reasonable to me to hold rallies at this time in the Canary Islands”, the politician justified himself before a Ferreras who did not quite understand him.
“I’m trying to recover from low back pain. I’ve now come from a physiotherapist, and at 7 I’m going to Valencia, I hope I can hold out. This not doing sports for three weeks… I’ve pulled a back strain and I’m on medication, I’m still active and I’ll try to finish the campaign with or without pain,” Nuñez Feijóo sentenced, leaving the presenter of the Atresmedia space speechless.
Social networks were filled with comments critical of the Galician politician for the geographical error, but also for saying that an Urbasón was pricked to alleviate the pain of a pulled back, since these types of injections are given in case of allergic reactions or serious inflammation.
Many also criticized that Feijóo was hiding behind health problems to miss one of the most important political appointments of his career. “But then you don’t miss a day to work because of your period because what you are is a lazy person who doesn’t like to work,” “Who says that Urbason injected him for the jerk, this man couldn’t be more obscene” or “He doesn’t even believe the jerk, it’s that he laughs in our fucking face” are some of the comments that can be read on social networks.
