December 21, 2023 will be a day that journalist Pedro Piqueras will remember throughout his life. After five decades dedicated to the world of communication, the legendary television news presenter has put an end to his professional career this Thursday, after retiring at the age of 68. There are many recognized faces who have wanted to pay tribute to her professional career, among them, Emma García, who this Saturday dedicated a few minutes of the Fiesta to revealing one of the best moments she experienced live with the man from Albacete.
Pedro Piqueras has put an end to his career, which lasted more than five decades, but above all he has put an end to one of the most important stages of his life, that of being a presenter for Informativos Telecinco. After 17 years in the position, the one who was once director of Radio Nacional de España said goodbye to his audience this Thursday with some emotional words. “Thank you for allowing me to enter your homes,” he said. “I leave with the best memories of having been with you for so many years. I wish you times of less tension, more justice and more happiness. Good night and see you always,” expressed the veteran communicator.
His words moved many, and there were many journalists from Mediaset (and other channels) who dedicated a few minutes to him in their live shows, as was the case of Antonio García Ferreras from Al Rojo Vivo, on Antena 3. Also in Telecinco programs, as was the case of Emma García this Saturday at Fiesta. The host of the format revealed a curious facet of the journalist: the difficulty he has in putting an end to his fits of laughter when they come to him live.
After reviewing Piqueras’ successful and long-lasting professional career, García addressed some anecdotes that she experienced with him during her time as a presenter on the program A tu lado, between 2002 and 2007. That space produced transitions with the news program, which Piqueras himself commanded. The Basque journalist confessed on the set of Fiesta that the difficult part was giving way when they both couldn’t stop laughing, something that happened sometimes.
“I remember one time he started laughing with you in At Your Side. And then you started laughing,” Ricky García told the presenter. “And when Emma García laughs, she doesn’t stop,” collaborator Luís Rollán clarified then. It was then that Emma spoke up to tell first-hand how those fun moments took place, and also how she remembers them so much.
“The other day I had the opportunity to talk to him and say goodbye. He told me: ‘what made me laugh during those times’. Of course, we had to make way for him. We had one of those surreal moments and I remember him crying from the laugh before giving way,” the presenter explained. “I saw him and, then, I continued laughing. Then the poor guy composed himself because he is a great professional,” she said about Piqueras. And, without a doubt, Pedro’s departure will leave a void in the world of communication and the small screen. Now, he has his well-deserved rest.
