Before his tragic murder, of which Daniel Sancho, son of the well-known actor Rodolfo Sancho, confessed to being the author, the doctor Edwin Arrieta had shared with close friends his intention to move to Spain. Beyond looking for a new home, he had plans to “formalize” his relationship with Sancho.
Arrieta, in conversations with his closest circle, had expressed his interest in buying an apartment in Spain. But his plans were not limited to a move. He had also started procedures to validate his medical degree in the Iberian country, with the dream of opening clinics in Madrid and Barcelona.
As the journalist José Ángel Leiras has recounted in Fiesta, he has broken his silence and has given some details of the future plans that the surgeon would have had before his murder. In this way, according to information from the program, Carlos Zuleta, a close friend of Arrieta, has confirmed that the surgeon wanted to start a new stage in Spain: “Three months ago more or less, at my daughter’s baptism, Edwin shared with me his plans. He wanted to move to Spain and was thinking of buying an apartment”.
But, beyond the professional, there was a strong sentimental component. Arrieta himself confided in Zuleta about his hidden relationship: “There is a boy named Dani with whom he has a relationship and his intention is to formalize it as a common-law relationship.”
While Arrieta dreamed of moving to Spain to consolidate his professional life and be with the cook, the confessed murderer wanted nothing to do with these plans. According to the Thai authorities, Sancho has told a very different story and one that leaves the surgeon as a kind of stalker.
“He was obsessed with me. He deceived me, he made me believe that what he wanted was to do business with me, to invest in the company of which I am a partner. He talked about projects together, going to Mexico, Chile, Colombia, opening a restaurant. But for him, all that was a smoke screen. His real desire was for me to be his partner, ”Sancho explained to the Thai police. He would have even received death threats from Arrieta that would have affected his mental health.
