Is it possible to change the color of house joints? Of course yes! In fact, it is a very ingenious solution if what you want is to look for an alternative to the traditional and boring white color of putty. Imagine painting the kitchen joints green or decorating the border of the bathroom tiles in blue… The possibilities are endless! This is demonstrated by Frank and Selli, a German couple with 214,000 followers on Instagram who are very eager to share DIY and do it yourself challenges and tricks on their profile.
What started as an experiment for this couple seems to have far exceeded their own expectations. The mission was to give a touch of color to a very large tiled room without having to resort to a professional painter. And like most of the tasks included in a renovation, we can also do this ourselves quickly, easily and, of course, very economically.
Look at the results! Do you want to know how they did it? Below, we explain how you too can try this fun technique at home:
The first thing you need is tile grout. This is a light mixture of various materials, such as white or gray cement, plaster or plaster that is used for grouting tiles. In the same container as the product, pour the concentrate of the color you most want to paint the tiles with. Remember that the light color of the grout will make the color combination lighter. Shake it for a few minutes… et voilà! You will now have your compound with which to get to work.
There are already other alternatives on the market, such as colored mortars for joints or grout pens. All of these products are part of every self-respecting gasket repair kit and you can get them at your trusted DIY store.
The rest of the intervention is bread and butter. It is a manual job, in which you must paint the joints of the tiles one by one with the help of a fine brush and a container as a palette. In a second pass, blend the color lines with a scouring pad. Afterwards, with a damp cloth you can remove any excess paint. It is about making the work as fine and precise as possible. Let the wall dry well and you will see the tiles in your house like never before!
