Suits swept the audience in the Netflix catalog and for this reason Hollywood is now waiting for an intellectual property that was believed to be a thing of the past and without anything new to contribute to the television landscape. As reported, thanks to the success of the revivals, NBCUniversal has a spin-off underway set in the same fictional universe with Aaron Korsch, the original creator, as the main creative manager. And, after it was published that it would be set in California instead of Mike and Havey’s New York, there is now more information about its starting point.

According to the Puck News portal, the spin-off will star a black woman in her thirties. Born in Southern California, Erica will be a Harvard Law graduate working in the entertainment industry. She’s a genius, smarter than anyone when it comes to closing clients and deals, but she’s a disaster in every other facet of her life. And she has one goal in mind: to be head of entertainment.

This leak implies that, at the moment and with the little information available, this project has little to do with the original Suits. It takes place far from the original series, there is no evidence that anyone from the cast headed by Patrick J. Adams, Gabriel Macht and Meghan Markle will work, and its protagonist does not have the same starting point.

Let us remember that the main characteristic of Suits is that it focused on a young man, Michael Ross (Patrick J. Adams), who had not graduated in law from Harvard as his resume reported and who, therefore, practiced law fraudulently. with the help of a mentor, Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), one of the sharks of Chicago legal circles.

The hook was to see how Ross and Specter created an unusual alliance and how they got their way despite the lie that could put them in prison at any moment or, at the very least, ruin their professional careers forever.

This project will not be the first Suits spin-off. In 2017, when Suits was preparing its seventh season, the production of a series focused on Jessica Pearson, the character played by Gina Torres, was announced. During the eighth season, the pilot episode was presented: Harvey’s partner moved to Chicago to become the city’s mayor’s lawyer and problem-solver.

But, after the series premiered in July 2019, the audiences were insufficient to ensure Pearson the production of a second season and it was canceled in October of that same year. It didn’t help that, when the project was given the green light, Suits was already on its last legs: it lasted until September 2019 with the closing of the ninth season, for which Katherine Heigl was the main novelty.

Taking advantage of the revaluation of Suits, Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, Gina Torres and Patrick J. Adams starred in a reunion at the last Golden Globes gala with the presentation of an award. Maybe it’s time for them to receive a large check to produce even a sequel in the form of a miniseries, taking into account that they are one of the great success stories of 2023 in the world of entertainment?
