The fashion industry is one of the most polluting in the world. In fact, it is the second sector that pollutes the most due to the different processes that are followed when making clothing such as jeans. In addition, each year the firms generate a lot of stock from the different collections that they launch and that do not sell all their units.
To try to minimize this impact, Desigual has just announced the launch of its first on-demand collection ‘On Demand’. The goal is to sell only the number of items that generate interest from your customers. At the moment the line does not exist physically, but the different pieces and accessories have been created with artificial intelligence to show them to consumers.
Thanks to machine learning technology, eight bags, a kimono and a skirt have been designed. Some designs that follow the characteristic style of the Catalan firm, with patchwork print, multicolor prints, embroidery and different finishes such as leather effect or denim fabric.
The designs have prices ranging from 199 to 399 euros and can already be consulted on their website. People who are interested in purchasing one of the pieces can already do so, obtaining a totally personalized and unique experience because they can follow the manufacturing process.
“This on-demand collection is the combination of our almost 40-year history and the continuous transversal innovation that we promote from the company. We are very excited to test these designs made by our team and supported by artificial intelligence, the production of garments and accessories that are manufactured at the request of customers, which will allow us to experiment with reducing product stock and investigate new ways of reaching consumers, creating almost jointly”, says the founder of Desigual, Thomas Meyer.
With this business step, the firm once again shows its commitment to the environment. In fact, in each collection that he puts up for sale, he uses materials and processes that are increasingly sustainable.
