Delores the naked cat loves beards: Pet Psyche | Toronto Star

Most adoring pet owners would do anything for their cherished companions, but could they speak for their furry or feathered or finned friends and tell us what they are thinking? To find out, we’re putting pet owners to the test with the personality questionnaire made famous by French novelist Marcel Proust.

Meet Rylee Rae and Delores.

If the term “crazy cat lady” means being crazy about your cat, Rae is happy to accept the designation. After her long-held dream to share her life with a Skinderlop (a cross between a Sphynx and a Scottish fold) came true six months ago, Rae had her hairless beauty’s image tattooed on her right arm. “I just loved her so much, she needed to be immortalized because she’s so perfect,” Rae explains.

While beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, anyone lucky enough to meet Delores in person can’t help but fall a little in love with her otherworldly gaze, pink skin that feels like warm velvet and her confident, affectionate nature.

After Rae started regularly posting photos of Delores on her Instagram, 6,000 new followers appeared. But it was when BuzzFeed picked up her post of Delores dressed up for Halloween as Dobby, the house elf from Harry Potter, andit logged more than two million views that Delores became a social media sensation.

Even with a website in the works, plans for Delores merchandise and a movie offer in the mix, Rae is still astonished by Delores’s rapid rise to fame.

“My cat now takes up space on my calendar,” Rae says. “Never in a million years did I think this was going to be a reality for us.”

What is Delores’s current state of mind?

She’s probably loving all this attention and it all being about her. She’s very narcissistic, but in a very beautiful way.

What does Delores consider the most overrated virtue?

Modesty. She’s so confident and naked and out there and it doesn’t bother her in the least.

What is the quality Delores most likes in a man?

Calloused hands that she can rub her face against. And she loves beards. Bearded men are great because she loves rubbing her face on theirs.

Which living person does Delores most admire?

She’s very fond of my 5-year-old little boy, Parker. He sits down on the couch and will read her books and she curls up in his lap.

Who or what is the greatest love of Delores’s life?

Bed. If she’s not in bed with a person, she’s inside the pillowcase on Parker’s bed.

Which talent would Delores most like to have?

The ability to control the temperature, because I think she wishes I kept it warmer in here than I do. I think she is secretly meant to be a tropical cat.

What is Delores’s most treasured possession?

Her eyeballs — she loves those. They’re crocheted cat toys made to look like eyeballs and are filled with catnip.

What is Delores’s most marked characteristic?

Definitely her confidence. She’s just very classy and it’s an effortless confidence that she exudes.

What is it that Delores most dislikes?

Being woken up is hands down what she hates the most. She wishes she could stay in bed all day.

Which historical figure does Delores most identify with?

Tallulah Bankhead (1940s actress). She was one of those people who was a little different. She had a really raspy voice and she was still admired by everyone, despite breaking the moulds of normalized beauty, which I think Delores does.

Who are Delores’s heroes in real life?

Just everyday girls kicking butt. You’ve just got to own it and do it — so, all those girls out there who are doing it.

What is Delores’s motto?

Fur-free is the way to be.
