The wait has come to an end for Spanish Formula 1 fans, as DAZN has officially announced who will be in charge of narrating the ‘Great Circus’ world championship in 2024. A lot of excitement was generated on social networks due to rumors of possible new faces that could join the team, such as Cristinini, and on January 31 alarm bells went off due to the departure of Víctor Abad, who directed F1 Code and narrated F3 and F2 races.
After weeks of speculation and expectation, the streaming platform that owns the television rights to Formula 1 in Spain has confirmed the continuity of Antonio Lobato, Pedro de la Rosa and Toni Cuquerella this emblematic team, known colloquially as the ‘Calavera Trio’.
Uncertainty about the future of Lobato, De la Rosa and Cuquerella arose with the change from Movistar to DAZN, who now holds exclusive rights to Formula 1 in Spain. Although the three had a contract with the former owner, it was necessary to negotiate their continuity with DAZN, and hence the stir on social networks by fans under the hashtag
DAZN announced the continuity of the trio through a video published on its X account, formerly Twitter, in which Lobato and Cuquerella appear entering a broadcast booth, and remember the former Formula 1 driver and Aston Martin ambassador, De la Rosa, in a photo that carries the hashtag that was trending.
To his surprise, the Catalan enters the space and joins his two teammates. With joy they celebrate that the ‘skull trio’ is still alive for another season. The video ends with an exterior shot of the cabin, which is nothing more than a truck trailer that starts up and surprises them.
Regarding its continuity this season, Pedro de la Rosa said: “It has been a long winter, I am looking forward to this new stage getting underway. This 2024 we will once again have two Spanish drivers in two great teams and we will have the privilege to live it, to narrate it and in a very special way. It’s going to be spectacular.”
For his part, Toni Cuquerella, who will continue in his seventh consecutive season as a commentator, added: “Formula 1 is reaching a new dimension in Spain in recent years, but I feel that the best is yet to come. It is an honor to be able to lead everything I know to the fans’ homes every weekend.
“I’m really looking forward to this new stage at DAZN, we want to take Formula 1 to the next level. The goal is for people to continue getting hooked and dreaming every weekend like we do, I hope I can narrate ’33’ and the third this year,” Lobato said on DAZN.
The news of the skull trio adds to the hype about the rest of the DAZN F1 team, which has not yet been revealed. It is expected to know who will be the presenter on set, since nothing has been announced regarding Noemí de Miguel, as well as the reporters on the circuit, such as Melissa Jiménez, where the presence of Albert Fábrega is expected to continue.
