The murder of the Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta has been one of the issues of greatest interest in the Spanish social chronicle of 2023. The involvement of Daniel Sancho has been the main motive, after the cook surrendered to the Thai police last month August, after confessing that he had dismembered the victim. A fact for which he is currently immersed in a trial that will last until May.
During the last few weeks, there have been exchanges of statements between the lawyers of both families, but this Friday night a voice that gained prominence during the early stages of the case was heard again. Darling Arrieta, Edwin’s sister, has reappeared on the country’s television screens through an interview on Friday!, where she has recreated the days before and the moment of discovering her death.
It all started on Tuesday, August 2, the date of the murder according to the police investigation, and the last time Darling spoke with Edwin. It was the next morning when the alarms went off, when the victim no longer contacted her family after 11:00 in the morning, thus breaking her habit of doing so as soon as she got up. Her parents contacted the interviewee, who sent her messages that reached her phone.
According to Arrieta, the situation took a turn when she called the secretary of her office, who confirmed that she had not spoken with her or the patients at her clinic who had an online appointment either. Throughout the day she tried to send him messages without success, and she called him again on Thursday at 6:00. It was then that a friend of hers informed her that Edwin had traveled to Thailand with some Spanish friends, which led her to investigate her Instagram profile.
It was there that Darling found a photo of Daniel Sancho in Koh Samui, whom he sent a message to through his account. The accused claimed that he had “lost sight of him” after taking some “hallucinogenic mushrooms”, before insisting that he would go to report him missing after a shower. The arrest of another Edwin on the island raised suspicions in her sister, when Sancho simply informed her that he “was Peruvian” and did not make any type of complaint.
The interviewee ended up sending a letter to the Colombian consulate in Thailand with a screenshot of the conversation, knowing then that her brother had not even checked in at his hotel. Two days later, Rodolfo Sancho contacted Darling: “First of all, I want to give you my deepest condolences. To you and your entire family. My soul is with you, I have no words to express the horror I feel with this situation.”
“I can’t even imagine what you guys are feeling. You don’t know how sorry I am, I’m devastated. It is obvious that my son had some type of psychotic break, that he had some illness that had never surfaced, but without a doubt there is no excuse or forgiveness for what he has done,” the actor wrote in a text message.
